In 1993, Torey Harrah was born with Apert syndrome, a rare genetic condition marked by a prematurely fused skull, resulting in severe craniofacial anomalies and potential lifelong brain damage. When director Tisha Blood first met Torey, she had already been through a couple of the many operations she would eventually endure. Though the film is rough at first, Blood follows the Harrah family through ten years of operations, bankruptcy, heartache and stress, showing the extreme duress that can accompany a family dealing with a special needs child.
